Frequently asked questions
Are all the items in my shop made by me?
Everything listed in my shop is hand-made, by me, in Austin Texas. I buy rough material from around the world, cut it into slabs, cut the slabs into preforms, and hand grind and polish every cab.
Do I use automated equipment?
Except for a sphere machine; I do not use any automated equipment. I hand cut, shape and polish every stone, cab, and slab. I do not use a tumbler to polish cabochons like many do.
I take a lot of pride in my workmanship and ability to honestly state "hand-made".
Am I a member of APP?
I am not currently a member of the Association of Professional Piercers, though I will be applying as a Corporate Sponsor in 2018. The APP is non-profit, self governing organization which disseminates information on body piercing.
The APP's goals are to educate practitioners and consumers on safe and ethical practices related to body piercings. APP members, and the shops they work at, are required to meet specific health and safety standards; in what is an otherwise unregulated industry.
If you are considering a piercing; an APP certified shop and piercer is the smart choice.
Do I treat or seal my work to obtain my polish.
I do not use any type of applied sealants on my stones to achieve their polishes. All my cabochons, spheres, and other products are polished on diamond grinding wheels and a leather buffing pad using optical grade Cerium Oxide, Tin Oxide, and ultra fine (0.03 micron) Alumina.
How reliable are my photographs?
I do not manipulate the colors or contrast in any of my photographs. I take all pictures using the default settings on my Galaxy 6 phone. I have quite a lot of feedback complimenting the accuracy of my listing photographs to the delivered stone.
For those who want to dig deeper into the color accuracy; In most of my listings I have at least one picture with photographic gray scale card as a backdrop. There are several photo editing software packages that can read the grayscale card and make a color correction based off the card.
If I feel that a photo does not accurately reflect the stone, I do not use it.
Will I reserve a listing?
I am happy to reserve a listing. For new customers; I will reserve a stone for up to 7 days. If I am not contacted or the listing is not purchased, I will remove the reservation and will not reserve items for that individual at any time in the future.
For my established customers, I will reserve listings up to two weeks. If the listing is not purchased or I am not contacted; I will attempt to contact you. If the attempt fails, I will remove reservation and future requests for a reservation may be denied.
